Make Your Own Cleaning Products
Here are some excellent recipes for homemade cleaning products. They work exceptionally well and are less expensive than the premade packaged cleaners you find at stores. These products can be more eco-friendly than some of the packaged chemical products.
Carpet Cleaner
1/2 cup Liquid Laundry Soap
1/2 cup of Ultra Liquid Laundry Softener
1 full cup of Ammonia
Add the above to 1 gallon of
water minus two cups (14 cups).
Use as you would any store bought
carpet cleaner.
Drain Cleaner
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup of vinegar
2 quarts boiling water
Plunge stuck drain first. Pour 1/2 cup
baking soda down the drain, followed
by the vinegar and then boiling water.
Comb and Brush Cleaner
1 pint (16 fluid oz.) water
1/4 cup household ammonia
1/4 tsp shampoo or liquid detergent
Mix all ingredients in a bowl or jar.
Set comb or brush in the liquid and
allow to soak for 5-10 minutes.
Remove from the liquid and clean
the brush by scraping with a comb
(and vice versa). Rinse with warm
water and allow to dry before using.
Glass Cleaner
1 qt. water
1/2 cup white vinegar
1 cup ammonia
Mix all ingredients and pour into spray bottle.
Use newspaper to wipe dry.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
1 tbsp household ammonia
1 cup hyrdogen peroxide
2 quarts water
Mix ingredients in a bucket, then
slowly pour solution into the toilet
bowl. Let stand for 30 minutes, then
scrub inside of bowl with a scrub
brush and flush. For stubborn stains,
let stand for several hours. Use
regularly to clean and disinfect.
Oven Cleaner
1 cup Ammonia
2 cups Boiling water
1/2 cup Baking soda
1 cup White vinegar
Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees.
Leave oven on for 15 minutes; turn off
and leave the door closed.
Fill a shallow baking pan with ammonia
and place on the top shelf of your oven.
Fill another pan with 2 cups boiling
water and place on the bottom shelf.
Close oven and leave pans in for at
least 2 hours or overnight.
Remove ammonia and make a paste of
ammonia, baking soda and vinegar.
Spread paste on oven surfaces, leave
on for 15 minutes, and then
scrub off with a sponge or steel wool.
